Huruma Children's Home

Huruma Children's Home was founded in 1990 by Mama Zipporah and her late husband, Pastor Isaac Kamau, to provide care and education for orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya. The home consists of preschool, primary and secondary schools located on the same compound. In addition to academics, Huruma offers vocational training programs in carpentry, hairdressing, agriculture, and other practical skills to better prepare students for independent living after their time at the home.

After graduating from Huruma's high school, students have the option to enroll in a one-year transitional program where they move to a separate facility nearby. There, they can continue developing their vocational skills while also getting support to adjust to life outside the children's home.

On June 17th, 2023, Elimu World Foundation, along with volunteers, visited Huruma Children's Home for a book donation. We were hosted by matrons at the home including Mama Zipporah, Matron , and Teacher Mary. Huruma is currently home to 267 children and we donated a variety of books, from fiction to textbooks required by the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) for school.

The children and staff were extremely appreciative of the donation. However, the demand for CBC-approved textbooks remains high. Therefore, Elimu World Foundation plans to make a second visit to the home soon to provide more of the in-demand learning materials. By supplying Huruma with educational resources, we hope to further their mission of empowering vulnerable youth in Kenya.
